Villa Scopetello our Tuscan Destination!
We are leaving today for vacation in Europe. First Prague, then Vienna, a night in Florence, a week with friends at a villa in Tuscany, and then lastly a couple of nights in Rome before we fly home.
This will be our first time away since we got the goats. We finished weaning them yesterday and all three seem to be adjusting to the grain and hay fairly well. Louise does protest the most; she stands at the top of the dog walk and screams her dissatisfaction with the sudden lack of attention. We've decided to try to ignore here screeching as much as possible - as not to reward her for making loud noise ... although we are cognizant of the fact that our neighbors, regardless of how distant they are, may grow to hate us if she keeps it up for much longer. Because of this, we have taken to letting them out of the loafing area later in the morning and putting them back in earlier at dusk.
Our most fabulous friends Joe and Patrick will be house/dog/goat sitting while we are away. I told them it should be fairly simple, but we still managed to leave them a two page instruction sheet and a list of back up contacts just in case. Well, we’re off to the airport for a fun filled 12 hour excursion to the Czech Republic. Ciao!
Our first haying job is complete!
We picked up two of these truckloads of hay, 100 bales total, from a field in Easthampton. What seemed like an impossible task turned out to be not so bad once we started. A couple of hours on Friday night, then a couple more hours Saturday morning ... and everything was put away and ready to (hopefully) carry us through the winter.
